In 2020, the idea to have the first Throwdown for the Kids began with a conversation between friends regarding the startling prevalence of child trafficking within our own country. Derek Bishop, Savannah Wuthrich and Jackie and Corey Penny decided in that moment that they wanted to do something to make a difference in the lives of the victims. Partnering with The Place of Hope, they started a non-profit fundraising Crossfit competition based out of the Bishops' gym - The Crossfit Squad - to help raise money locally to support the cause. Held annually, each competition has shown significant increases in fundraising and participation from people throughout South Florida.
In our first year, we had multiple local businesses sponsor, over 40 teams register and raised $7,000 for the kids.
In year two, we raised close to $9,000 with over 50 teams register to Throwdown for the Kids.
In 2022, we had an incredible event, raising over $25,000 with over 70 team registrations for the kids.
